AUBURN BIKE TEAM POISED FOR AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA 2011

Local business leaders, along with representatives from the City of Auburn, County of Placer and the “Auburn cycling community” are meeting and developing plans for a series of cycling events over a four-day weekend leading to Auburn’s Stage Start for Amgen Tour of California on May 17th, 2011.
Considered cycling’s most important and successful road race held in the United States, the sixth annual event will cover more than 800 miles over the epic eight days. Auburn will be, one of fifteen Cities in California, playing a major marketing and promotional role this next year.
The race will wind through miles of beautiful California terrain, beginning with the first-ever visit to Lake Tahoe, a well known cycling destination and home of “America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride.” The eight-day race will travel through some of the state’s most scenic landmarks, with the overall finish taking place in title-sponsor Amgen’s hometown community of Thousand Oaks.
“This year, Auburn experienced the thrill of the Amgen Tour of California as a pass-through City,” said Bridget Powers, Mayor City of Auburn. “We are excited to once again welcome the Amgen Tour of California in 2011, but this time as an official Host City. The Amgen Tour of California will be added as the crown jewel on a global stage here in Auburn, California ~ The Endurance Capital of the World. We are stoked.”
The Auburn Bike Team / Auburn Chamber of Commerce will soon be offering unique marketing opportunities for local business to associate their business with this world class event as sponsors and underwriters. There are many opportunities for community volunteers, and community service clubs and organizations, to help with numerous aspects of event logistics and special programs.
