Living in Auburn ... Everyone's favorite Hometown

What is it about Auburn that makes people want to stay and others want to move here?

Maybe it’s the location?

That could be one good reason. Auburn is ideally situated only 30 miles from the State Capitol in Sacramento. And if you head west towards the Pacific, in less than two hours you could be having lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. If you head east towards the Sierras, in the same amount of time you could be skiing down the slopes of Squaw Valley in the winter or water skiing on Lake Tahoe in the summer.

Possibly the climate is the main reason?

Another good reason because Auburn offers a distinct “four season” climate. In spring, the flowers and tree blossoms burst forth and seem to be more plentiful than in other places. After that the long sunny summer days provide the perfect weather to take advantage of the many outdoor recreational opportunities in the area. And as summer turns to Fall the full palette autumn colors is revealed with the beauty and splendor of the falling leaves. As the air becomes crisp with the coming of winter and the holidays you can get the cozy feeling of that season without having to use a snow shovel!

Maybe it’s the easy access to transportation?

That’s a good point. Auburn sits astride a national transportation artery Interstate 80 that heads west to Sacramento and San Francisco and east to Reno spanning the wide expanse of the nation all the way to New York. There is also the Auburn Municipal Airport that can handle a variety of private aircraft including some small jets. In addition Auburn is an Amtrak rail stop. That is particularly important for those who commute to the Bay Area for their jobs because Amtrak runs daily commuter trains. Imagine being able to work in the Bay Area and spend your weekends in the foothill community of Auburn. Now that’s living!

Could it be the great variety of places to live?

Auburn has a varied inventory of different places to call home. From single family homes in new communities to the ready stock of older dwellings with the charm of another time, from renting to ownership and from places close in to the city center and small ranchettes a little further out, Auburn offers something for every taste and pocketbook.

How about the many year round recreational opportunities and community events?

Auburn is known far and wide as the Endurance Capital of the World. It is home to the most challenging and historic endurance events ever held including the Western States Endurance Run, Western States Trail 100 Mile Tevis Cup Ride horse and rider endurance race. For individual and family fun there is whitewater rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding, golf and the close proximity to the Tahoe area ski resorts are just some of the many outdoor recreational activities that are available. There is also a full complement of leagues and team sports such as softball, Little League, Pop Warner football, soccer and swim teams all run by the Auburn Recreation District. And if its community events you are looking for there is the Spring Antique Fair, the Old Town Country Christmas and the Festival of Lights Parade that attracts holiday revelers from around the state. And the big Chamber fundraiser of the year held every August, the Black and White Ball which benefits not only the Chamber but also the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice and Raley’s Food for Families.
