If a clever and zany comedy play sounds like fun, you are in luck. “Moon Over Buffalo,” written by Ken Ludwig (“Lend Me a Tenor,” “Crazy for You”) will be presented March 13-28, 2020, by Placer Community Theater, Auburn’s hometown nonprofit theater company, now in its 17th year. Audiences will enjoy fast-paced antics in the intimate surroundings of the historic General Gomez Arts & Event Center. “Moon Over Buffalo” is the story of George and Charlotte Hay, fading married stars of the 1950’s who are performing “Private Lives” and “Cyrano De Bergerac” with their small repertory theatre company in Buffalo, New York. On the verge of a divorce, brought on by George’s affair with a young ingénue and Charlotte’s blooming relationship with a lawyer, the Hays receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: famed director, Frank Capra, is coming to town to see their matinee! If he likes what he sees, he might cast them in a classic movie remake of “The Scarlet Pimpernel”. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, assisted by a visit from their daughter and her clueless fiancé, the hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing, and Charlotte’s deaf stage-manager mother. But the Hays’ misfortune is a comedy gold-mine for the audience, who will reap the hilarious rewards. Evening performances will be presented at the historic General Gomez Arts & Event Center, located at 808 Lincoln Way in downtown Auburn at 7:30 pm on March 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28, and matinees at 2:00 pm on March 15, 22, and 28.
